Advanced root canal treatment for saving your natural teeth
Root canals are a valuable and essential part of dentistry. Saving your natural tooth with a root canal treatment is an investment for a better quality of life. It frees you from associated pain and avoids more costly or inconvenient solutions.
Your dentist may have referred you here or you are welcome to make an appointment without a referral. Either way, you will be cared for by some of Queensland’s leading experts in endodontics who are dedicated to giving you understanding, individual care, advanced facilities and the highest standard of treatment.
We are based in Brisbane and welcome patients from all over Queensland to our practice in the North Lakes Specialist Medical Centre at North Lakes.
Why do I need an endodontist?
Some dentists offer root canal treatment for simple cases but endodontists are the specialists in this area and have additional training, experience and equipment to manage even the most complex cases, or problems from previous treatment.
Expertise
Endodontists (Doctors of Clinical Dentistry) have an extra three years training in addition to their general training as dentists. The specialists at myEndodontist also have decades of daily experience treating all sorts of root canal challenges in both Australia and the USA. Their expertise gives you peace of mind that you will get the best advice and the best results.
Equipment
The latest technology, including dental operating microscopes with fluorescence technology, assure state of the art delivery of care. At myEndodontist, we have invested in the most advanced tools of our trade and use biocompatible materials to make root canal treatment precise and accurate, to eliminate infection so you can keep your natural tooth. This all helps ensure trouble-free outcomes.
Empathy
No-one really likes dental treatment and many people have dental anxiety. Because we specialise in endodontics, we understand your fear if you need a root canal treatment or retreatment. Most of our patients say root canals are not as bad as they expected because we offer a range of anesthesia and sedation options.
What are the signs that I might need a root canal treatment?
There are a few symptoms that might indicate you need a root canal treatment:
- Severe pain while chewing or biting
- Deep decay or darkening of the gums
- Swollen or tender gums
- Pimples on the gums
- A chipped or cracked tooth
- Lingering sensitivity to hot or cold, even after the sensation has been removed.
Often your dentist will be the one to advise you need a root canal treatment but you are welcome to contact us direct for advice.
We believe pain shouldn’t be a part of endodontics – or life!
We take the discomfort away in every sense, whether that’s the immediate physical pain, the uncertainty about your options or the disruption to your life and wellbeing.
We offer a range of pain-relief options during the root canal treatment, including conscious sedation, IV sedation and nitrous oxide (laughing gas), even general anaesthesia, if necessary. We always discuss these options with you and help select the method that best suits your circumstances.
Our specialist endodontic services
Root canal treatment
Root canal treatment is a treatment sequence for the infected pulp (nerve) of a tooth which is intended to result in the elimination of infection and the protection of the treated tooth from future reinfection or extraction.
Root canal retreatment
Root canal retreatment involves the removal or access through the crown and removing the previous root canal filling material. After canal disinfection procedures, the canal(s) are re-filled and the tooth sealed with a new permanent crown or filling.
Endodontic surgery
Surgery provides a predictable method to remove diseased tissue surrounding infected root ends and allows root-end filling materials to be placed after root resection. The treatment encourages healing and tooth retention in cases of non-healing root canal treatments.
Vital pulp therapy
Vital pulp therapy is defined as a treatment that aims to preserve and maintain healthy pulp tissue that has been challenged by caries, trauma, or restorative procedures. This is particularly important in young adult teeth with incomplete apical root development, but can also be successful for many adult patients.
Dental emergencies (dental trauma)
Dental trauma refers to trauma (injury) to the teeth and/or periodontium (gums, periodontal ligament, alveolar bone), and nearby soft tissues such as the lips, tongue, etc. Early interceptive treatment directly after trauma is critical in saving teeth and avoiding unwanted complications.
Walking/internal bleaching
The walking bleach technique is used to whiten teeth that have had previous root canal treatments. It involves bleaching the teeth internally and can be successful without needing crowns or veneers.
Diagnosis of odontogenic pain
The diagnosis of odontogenic pain differentially locates the source of oral discomfort, that can be caused by teeth, muscles, neoplasms or neurological disorders.
We partner with dentists for lasting results
